What is soft tissue therapy?
You may have heard it called sports massage, soft tissue massage, remedial massage, deep tissue massage or therapeutic massage. Soft tissue therapy uses a combination of treatment approaches to bring about lasting changes to your body’s soft tissues, relieving tension and pain and bringing about balance in the soft tissues and throughout your body. It includes the use of more general massage techniques as well as various advanced techniques to manipulate the soft tissues. Here at Live One Eighty I also use muscle activation in my practice.
Wherever possible I will give you the tools you need to take control of your own body to enable you to bring about the changes you need to live a full and active life. The idea is not that you become dependent on me to “fix” you, but for you to become your own fixer.
The aim is to make long lasting changes to the soft tissues, allowing your body to function fully, freely and properly again. It is not all about me doing to you. It is far more about you taking control of your own body and doing what you need to do to achieve balance and good functioning.
How can it help you?
Soft tissue therapy is beneficial for anyone whatever age, whether you are someone who sits all day at a desk or computer (or the kitchen table!), spends long periods of time driving or standing, uses repetitive movements in your job or leisure activities such as decorating, plastering, gardening, needle-craft or childcare, or manages a stressful job or life style.
For anyone experiencing muscular aches and pains or tension headaches, or feeling stiff and finding it difficult to perform certain tasks due to lack of flexibility, mobility or pain, soft tissue therapy can help restore full and effective pain free functioning, increasing your general well being and the quality of your life.
Soft tissue therapy can help anyone who plays sport or takes part in physical activities either for enjoyment, to keep fit or competitively. Sports massage and soft tissue therapy, along with a good muscle activating and strengthening programme, will help to prevent injuries that impact on your training and take you away from your sport while you rehabilitate.
A soft tissue therapist will identify potential problem areas early on, often before you are aware of them, and can work on restoring full functioning to these areas as well as addressing areas of your body that are compensating for the problems.
Massage for relaxation & mental wellbeing
Massage can also be very relaxing and can contribute to the management of our emotional and mental wellbeing. Therefore I also offer a firm but light relaxing massage alongside the above soft tissue therapy if you would like help to relax or manage your mental & emotional wellbeing and to destress, particularly during difficult times.
